Five Night Kitchen

Use what you have

Use a spinach bag while keeping the leaves from turning watery

Spinach shrinks quickly in heat. Assign its raw weight before cooking, then add it near the finishing stage of a pasta, potato dish or lentil pot instead of treating its volume as the final serving size.

Measure the part you can use

Use the weight of usable raw leaves after removing any spoiled material and tough stems. Follow a ready-to-eat label where present; otherwise wash under running water and drain well. Frozen chopped spinach has a different water content and state.

Choose the texture you want

Pasta finish

Have the sauce and pasta nearly ready before adding spinach at the recipe’s finishing step. Turn the leaves through the hot sauce just until they wilt; long simmering is unnecessary.

Lentil pot

Cook the lentils to their required texture first. Add the measured spinach when instructed so its water does not obscure whether the lentils are cooked or the liquid level needs adjusting.

Potato dinner

Finish cooking the potatoes before folding in the greens. This keeps the spinach from sitting in the pan for the whole potato cooking time and makes the final texture easier to control.

When the result is not quite right

If the sauce gets thin, check whether washed leaves were well drained. Finish only as the recipe allows rather than adding dry grain to an already finished dish. Use a larger pan to fold a bulky raw handful without spilling.

Allocate your spinach

Choose dinners in the list below. Stock is assigned in that order; any shortfall remains visible. This only totals spinach, so check every full recipe for its other ingredients and method.

No dates, freshness assessment or prepared-batch credit are applied here. This worksheet stays separate from your saved week. Select usable food and schedule it within its actual storage limits.

Open a complete week

The week opens with its own saved settings. Add your stock there to deduct it from the full shopping list.

Keep and prepare your stock

Keep perishable and pre-cut spinach refrigerated and plan it early in the week. Use the actual date and condition when entering stock; moving a meal later does not make the leaves last longer.

Avoid this mix-up

Do not translate a raw bag into an equal cooked weight. This worksheet deliberately tracks the raw grams the recipes request.

Use the storage guide for prepared batches, and follow actual product labels. Our recipe and quantity checks are not a real cooking trial.
