Five Night Kitchen

Use what you have

Match potato cuts to a skillet, soup or steamed salad

Potatoes are a useful anchor for several dinners, but large chunks and thin slices cannot share one cooking time. Plan the edible weight first and choose the method before cutting the whole bag.

Measure the part you can use

Wash the potatoes, remove any parts you will not use, and weigh the edible raw amount. The recipes specify whether to peel and how large to cut. Do not treat one potato or a cooked scoop as a fixed gram amount.

Choose the texture you want

Skillet pieces

Use the egg-and-potato skillet’s small, even pieces and check a center piece for tenderness before adding eggs. Browning outside does not establish that a thick potato center is cooked.

Soup or chickpea pot

Follow the stated chunk size so the potatoes finish with the rest of the pot. Cut large pieces smaller at the start rather than boiling the entire dish longer after other ingredients soften.

Steamed potato salad

Steam the potato pieces to the full recipe’s doneness check, then follow its dressing and serving instructions. This route preserves distinct pieces instead of mashing them into the sauce.

When the result is not quite right

If the outside browns while the center stays hard, check cut size and pan heat. A large batch may need more loads, not just more oil. Test a thick piece before moving to the egg or sauce stage.

Allocate your potatoes

Choose dinners in the list below. Stock is assigned in that order; any shortfall remains visible. This only totals potatoes, so check every full recipe for its other ingredients and method.

No dates, freshness assessment or prepared-batch credit are applied here. This worksheet stays separate from your saved week. Select usable food and schedule it within its actual storage limits.

Open a complete week

The week opens with its own saved settings. Add your stock there to deduct it from the full shopping list.

Keep and prepare your stock

Store intact potatoes according to their packaging and condition. Refrigerate pre-cut produce and prepared dishes as directed. Only enter stock that you have checked and intend to use; the worksheet cannot assess spoilage.

Avoid this mix-up

Do not count a bag’s printed gross weight after you have discarded or peeled part of it. Reweigh the portion you can cook.

Use the storage guide for prepared batches, and follow actual product labels. Our recipe and quantity checks are not a real cooking trial.
