Buy the right dry polenta and keep it loose until the topping is ready
A bag of dry cornmeal and a tube of cooked polenta cannot be weighed as the same ingredient. For the mushroom bowl, choose a product that can be cooked to a spoonable texture and coordinate the topping before the base sets.
Measure the part you can use
Weigh plain dry polenta cornmeal before adding water. The mushroom dinner uses 140g for two servings: a 100g supply is 40g short. An example 500g bag leaves 460g dry after supplying that gap. The purchased package size is an assumption to check on the label; cooked polenta contains added liquid and cannot be entered as the same dry amount.
Choose the texture you want
A creamy base for a hot topping
Add the dry grain gradually while whisking, following the full recipe and the product’s cooking time. Continue to stir the bottom and check that the grains have lost their sandy bite. A thick mixture may still be undercooked; thickness alone is not its final doneness check.
Brown mushrooms while the base cooks
On two burners, the existing dinner browns mushrooms separately while you return to stir the polenta. On one burner, finish the topping first and allow extra time. Keep the mushrooms’ released water out of the grain’s planned cooking-liquid calculation.
Serve before the texture sets
For this bowl, the finished polenta should fall slowly from the spoon. Have shallow bowls and the hot topping ready before portioning. A chilled block is a different texture with a different serving method, not a substitute for the dry ingredient in the same instructions.
When the result is not quite right
If the mixture stiffens before its grains are tender, use the recipe’s small hot-water additions and record the extra processing water. If lumps form, whisk as directed instead of tipping in more dry cornmeal. Do not assume an instant product needs the same cooking time as a slower product.
Allocate your plain polenta cornmeal
Choose dinners in the list below. Stock is assigned in that order; any shortfall remains visible. This only totals plain polenta cornmeal, so check every full recipe for its other ingredients and method.
140g needed · 100g from stock · 40g shortfall · 0g unassigned
| Recipe | Need | From stock | Shortfall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soft polenta with browned mushrooms | 140g | 100g | 40g |
No dates, freshness assessment or prepared-batch credit are applied here. This worksheet stays separate from your saved week. Select usable food and schedule it within its actual storage limits.
The week opens with its own saved settings. Add your stock there to deduct it from the full shopping list.
Keep and prepare your stock
Keep dry cornmeal according to its package. The cooked base and mushrooms follow the complete recipe’s cooling, storage and reheating instructions. The external source describes cold polenta slices, but this worksheet does not create a second batch or extend a leftover’s storage life.
Avoid this mix-up
A larger bag may lower a shop’s unit price, but no prices are assumed here. Compare your actual price per weight, storage space and likely use before buying the example pack.
Use the storage guide for prepared batches, and follow actual product labels. Our recipe and quantity checks are not a real cooking trial.
