Buy enough usable eggplant and pre-roast it before a lentil bake
An eggplant’s gross weight includes the stalk and any parts you discard. Use the edible raw weight for shopping, then roast the slices until tender before assembling the lentil bake.
Measure the part you can use
Rinse, remove the stalk and trim the parts you will not use, then weigh the edible raw eggplant. The bake needs 450g for two servings, so 350g prepared stock is 100g short. Buy enough additional eggplant to yield 100g after your actual trimming. The gross purchase weight is unknown until weighed; this guide does not invent a universal trimming percentage or a standard eggplant size.
Choose the texture you want
Tender slices with browned edges
The recipe slices eggplant lengthways, brushes on measured oil and roasts it in one layer before assembly. Check the center of a slice as well as its edges. Firm pale flesh needs the recipe’s continued roasting rather than being hidden under sauce.
A thick lentil layer beneath it
Prepare the tomato and lentil sauce while the slices roast. Let the lentils soften and reduce the sauce as directed before putting it in the shallow dish. Raw eggplant slices over a watery sauce are a different method; do not skip both preparation steps and expect the same result.
A bake that holds together when served
Use the recipe’s shallow arrangement and finish until the center is bubbling. Keep its brief serving rest so the sauce is easier to spoon. When increasing servings, retain the slice thickness and dish depth by using more space, rather than creating a deep stack.
When the result is not quite right
Some eggplants have tougher skin or larger seeds; decide what to discard before weighing. Food Hero notes that salting is not essential. The site’s bake does not require a separate salting-and-draining step, so do not add one and continue counting the untrimmed weight as usable stock.
Allocate your eggplant
Choose dinners in the list below. Stock is assigned in that order; any shortfall remains visible. This only totals eggplant, so check every full recipe for its other ingredients and method.
450g needed · 350g from stock · 100g shortfall · 0g unassigned
| Recipe | Need | From stock | Shortfall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eggplant and lentil tomato bake | 450g | 350g | 100g |
No dates, freshness assessment or prepared-batch credit are applied here. This worksheet stays separate from your saved week. Select usable food and schedule it within its actual storage limits.
The week opens with its own saved settings. Add your stock there to deduct it from the full shopping list.
Keep and prepare your stock
Plan fresh eggplant using its actual condition and the source’s handling guidance, then follow the completed bake’s storage plan after cooking. A roasted slice has changed state and weight; keep it in the prepared component record instead of adding it back to raw inventory.
Avoid this mix-up
A full tray can look like more food after spreading the slices out. Use the measured amount and the complete recipe’s servings, not tray coverage, to decide whether the dinner is fully supplied.
Use the storage guide for prepared batches, and follow actual product labels. Our recipe and quantity checks are not a real cooking trial.
