Reserve dry rice for three dinners before cooking a batch
Decide which rice belongs to a separate pot and which belongs inside a one-pot dinner. Measuring the dry stock first keeps absorbed cooking water from hiding a shortfall or creating a second stock credit.
Measure the part you can use
Weigh dry rice before rinsing or cooking. For two servings at each selected dinner, broccoli rice needs 160g, tomato lentil rice 120g and the curry’s rice 150g: 430g in total. A 300g jar is 130g short. If you buy an example 500g bag, use 130g to close that gap and leave 370g of new dry stock. Check the actual package size; these are arithmetic examples, not shop inventory.
Choose the texture you want
A separate fluffy rice pot
The curry keeps rice separate from its sauce. Check the rice packet’s liquid ratio and cooking time before starting; brown, short-grain and long-grain rice are not guaranteed to behave alike. Follow a packet instruction not to rinse enriched rice instead of applying a generic rinse step.
A vegetable rice dinner
Broccoli rice has its own sequence for the vegetable and beans. Keep the rice quantity tied to that dinner rather than adding an arbitrary cooked scoop at the end. Prepare the vegetable cuts first so the grain does not wait while you finish the prep.
An integrated tomato and lentil pot
Tomato lentil rice cooks several ingredients in a measured liquid system. Do not remove its dry rice allowance and substitute the same weight of cooked rice while keeping every other step. Choose the full recipe you can execute with the form you have.
When the result is not quite right
Hard grains in a dry pot need the selected recipe’s liquid adjustment and another tenderness check. A wet pot with soft grains needs a different correction. Record any added processing water separately; it does not change how much dry rice you owned.
Allocate your rice
Choose dinners in the list below. Stock is assigned in that order; any shortfall remains visible. This only totals rice, so check every full recipe for its other ingredients and method.
430g needed · 300g from stock · 130g shortfall · 0g unassigned
| Recipe | Need | From stock | Shortfall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Broccoli and black bean rice | 160g | 160g | 0g |
| Tomato lentil rice pot | 120g | 120g | 0g |
| Coconut chickpea and cauliflower curry | 150g | 20g | 130g |
No dates, freshness assessment or prepared-batch credit are applied here. This worksheet stays separate from your saved week. Select usable food and schedule it within its actual storage limits.
The week opens with its own saved settings. Add your stock there to deduct it from the full shopping list.
Keep and prepare your stock
Keep the unused dry portion sealed against moisture and pests. Once rice is cooked, follow the full recipe’s rapid cooling and storage plan: this planner limits refrigerated cooked rice to 24 hours, with prompt freezing for later dinners.
Avoid this mix-up
A prepared rice portion and the dry grams used to make it are the same food at different stages. Record the prepared batch once in the full planner; do not enter its cooked weight again as unused dry stock.
Use the storage guide for prepared batches, and follow actual product labels. Our recipe and quantity checks are not a real cooking trial.
