Five Night Kitchen

Use what you have

Use cabbage for crisp wraps, soft pots and steamed parcels

A cabbage does not have to become one enormous pot of soup. Weigh the usable leaves, choose the texture you want, and divide the head between meals that cook differently.

Measure the part you can use

Remove damaged outer leaves and the hard core before weighing. The planner expects raw, edible cabbage in grams. A whole head has no fixed weight, and cooked cabbage cannot replace that raw weight without a separate recipe.

Choose the texture you want

Crisp and fresh

For slaw wraps, cut fine strips and keep dressing separate until serving. A wide strip is harder to bite through and makes the wrap fall apart. Follow the full sesame slaw recipe for the measured dressing.

Soft and hearty

For cabbage and potatoes or lentil soup, cut bite-sized pieces. Add them at the recipe’s stated stage so the potatoes and lentils finish together; cabbage can soften faster than the other ingredients.

Whole-leaf parcels

Use broad, undamaged leaves for the steamed parcels. Follow that recipe’s leaf-softening step before filling. Torn leaves are better assigned to a chopped dish than forced around a filling.

When the result is not quite right

If a slaw becomes watery, keep the next batch of dressing separate and assemble a smaller amount at dinner. If a pot is watery, finish according to its recipe with the lid off; do not add uncooked lentils late just to absorb water.

Allocate your cabbage

Choose dinners in the list below. Stock is assigned in that order; any shortfall remains visible. This only totals cabbage, so check every full recipe for its other ingredients and method.

No dates, freshness assessment or prepared-batch credit are applied here. This worksheet stays separate from your saved week. Select usable food and schedule it within its actual storage limits.

Open a complete week

The week opens with its own saved settings. Add your stock there to deduct it from the full shopping list.

Keep and prepare your stock

Keep cut cabbage refrigerated. Frozen cabbage loses its crisp texture, so reserve that route for cooked dishes and use the linked vegetable-specific blanching method. A planned allocation is not a new use-by date.

Avoid this mix-up

Do not count the core or discarded outer leaves as usable stock. Freezing is not a way to rescue spoiled cabbage.

Use the storage guide for prepared batches, and follow actual product labels. Our recipe and quantity checks are not a real cooking trial.
